is
Assistive Technology (AT)?
Assistive
technology refers to devices and services that are used to increase,
maintain, or improve a person's ability to function. Some examples
of assistive technology are:
- specially
adapted computers that include voice input/output, screen
enlargers, adapted keyboards;
- wheelchairs,
scooters, and other mobility devices customized to meet
individual physical needs;
- lifts
that move a person into and out of bed, bathtub, pools and
other places that require assistance;
- positioning
equipment for muscle control assistance;
- adapted
controls that enable people to operate common devices, such
as switches, thermostats, and household appliances;
- devices
to address visual, hearing, and speech limitations, such
as text enlargers, specialized hearing aids, communication
boards... and thousands more
